Quadriceps tendon is a combined tendon of four muscles in the front of your thigh and its main function is to straighten your knee and leg. Tendons are strong cords of fibrous tissue that attach muscles to bones.
Tears in the Quadriceps tendon are not common. They most often occur in middle-aged person who play running or jumping sports.
Small tears (partial tears) of the tendon can make it difficult to walk, play sports and activities of daily living. A large tear of the quadriceps tendon is a disabling injury and usually requires surgery and physical therapy to regain full knee function.
